Ryan Cook was born on May 8, 1983 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attended the University of New Mexico and made the team as a walk-on and redshirted his first season in 2001.
In 2002 he managed to start eight games and made his first career start at UNLV. He battled a minor foot injury and got himself back into the starting lineup after recovering.
His 2003 season saw Ryan Cook earning first-team All-MWC honors in his first season as the full-time starter at the center position. He aided New Mexico running back DonTrell Moore in his school record of 1,450 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.
His junior year at New Mexico saw Ryan Cook contributing to a third straight New Mexico Lobos season where the team won at least seven games. Cook once again was recognized as first-team All-MWC. His senior season saw his third straight first-team All-MWC honors as his team went 6-5. Ryan Cook was able to help the Lobos upset Missouri on the road 45-35, marking the first time New Mexico has beaten a Big 12 opponent on the road since 1983. Cook opened holes all season for both DonTrell Moore and quarterback Kole McKamey. Moore was able to average 118 yards per game and McKamey ran for 100 yards in a single game.
In his collegiate career, Ryan Cook played in 49 career games and started the final 44 games. Cook helped the Lobos reach three straight bowl games under head coach Rocky Long who helped revitalize the program.
Ryan Cook started the final 3 game of the 2006 NFL season at right tackle for the Minnesota Vikings. He started his first NFL game on December 17 against the New York Jets. Cook can provide the Vikings with solid depth at several spots on the offensive line. He was originally a Vikings second round pick at number 51 overall of the 2006 NFL draft.
In 2007, Ryan Cook was a large factor (literally) in the Minnesota Vikings #1 ranked rushing offense. He has a bright 2008 season ahead due to his size, strength, and strong work ethic.
