Ray Edwards
Ray Edwards was born on January 1, 1985 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Purdue before being drafted by the Vikings in the 2006 NFL Draft in the fourth round with the 127th overall pick. 2007: Ray Edwards tied the Minnesota Vikings record with 5 sacks. He will be playing an increasingly large role in the 2008 season. Edwards started two games in 2006, joining five of the 2006 Vikings draft class to start a game in 2006. He ran wild with the rest of the Vikings defense in the first half of the Arizona Cardinals game on November 26, sharing a sack of quarterback Matt Leinart with fellow Vikings rookie Jayme Mitchell. He also had a season-high four quarterback hurries in the same game. Edwards sacked Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna on October 8. He saw his first NFL action in the 2006 season opener against Washington. Edwards decided to forgo his senior year of college in favor of entering the NFL Draft. College Ray Edwards finished his collegiate career tied for seventh on Purdue’s all time leaders in sacks with 16 and 15th with 24.5 tackles for a loss. Edwards compiled these stats despite skipping his senior season at Purdue to go to the NFL. 2005: Ray Edwards played in 11 games and made six starts in his junior year. He posted 11 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks. Edwards played a solid game at Indiana by posting a season-high 2.0 sacks and intercepting the first pass of his career. 2004: Edwards was an honorable mention All-Big Ten choice by the coaches and the media in his sophomore year. He started all 12 games while sharing the team lead in sacks with 8, a stat which also placed him tied for second in the Big Ten. Edwards 8 sacks put him into the annals of Purdue football history, placing him 11th on the all-time list. He was able to post a career-high 2.5 tackles for a loss against Syracuse en route to 11 tackles for a loss on the year, placing him second on the team in that stat category. 2003: Played as a true freshman in 13 games as a reserve defensive end. Ray Edwards’ first career sack came against Penn State. He would go on to make 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the way to Big Ten All-Freshman team honors by The Sporting News. Ray Edwards attended Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was a four-year starter. His senior numbers included 110 tackles, 12 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
