Kyle Cook was born on July 25, 1983 in Macomb, Michigan. He played high school football at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan for Coach Mike Giannone. Cook garnered PrepStar All-American honors in his high school career, he graded out 92 percent on his blocking assignments as a senior player and only allowed one sack. The offensive lineman also was heralded as one of the state of Michigan’s top senior football players by the Lansing State Journal, The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press.
Kyle Cook enrolled at Michigan State and redshirted in the 2002 season but was named Spartan Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week three times that year versus Eastern Michigan, Minnesota and Indiana. In his first year of real game action, Cook appeared in three games and backed up Chris Morris at the center position. In the game against Illinois, Cook produced a 100 percent effort on blocking assignments.
In the 2004 season, Kyle Cook moved into the starting job for left guard for all 12 games. He graded out over 90 percent in the 11 of 12 games he played. Cook finished fourth on the team in pancake blocks with 59. Cook was part of an offensive line that helped produce a rushing attack that was second in the Big Ten and tenth in the NCAA, averaging 238.5 yards per game. His line also only allowed eight sacks all season, tops in the Big Ten. Cook totaled 93 percent blocking assignments versus Michigan and had a career-high 12 pancake blocks.
Kyle Cook was signed as an undrafted rookie free-agent by the Minnesota Vikings on May 3, 2007.
