UPDATE: Jeremy Burnett was released from the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL in June 2008.

Jeremy Burnett was born on October 6, 1983 in Tampa, Florida. He attended high school at Jefferson in Tampa. In high school, Burnett was a standout defensive player and team captain. His senior year saw him make 103 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles. His play garnered a No. 39 ranking in the state of Florida by SuperPrep and three first-team all-conference selections. Besides football, Burnett also played baseball and ran track.

Jeremy Burnett enrolled at Purdue University out of high school and redshirted his freshman year. After the season he transferred to the University of Southern Florida, but had to sit out the 2003 season due to NCAA regulations.

In 2004 saw Burnett’s first action with Southern Florida, as he played time on special teams and provided strong play at the strong safety position. He played in nine games and had eight tackles, including five solo tackles. He had a season-high three tackles versus East Carolina on November 13.

In 2005, Jeremy Burnett played in all 12 games for the Southern Florida Bulls. He again played a lot of special teams and made four tackles on the season, including three in one game against Louisville on September 24.

Jeremy Burnett was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on April 29.
