Jason Carter
UPDATE: Jason Carter plays for the Carolina Panthers. Jason Carter was born on September 15, 1982 in Caldwell, Texas. He attended Caldwell High School and was a touted as a dangerous “run-pass” quarterback. He passed for 1,087 yards and rushed for 559 yards while scoring 18 all-purpose touchdowns as a senior. While in high school he received an All-America selection by Rivals.com. Jason Carter enrolled at Texas A&M after high school but did not play in the 2001 season as a redshirt. 2002 saw Carter in action as quarterback in 2 games of limited action, but he also returned punts and kickoffs. Carter was mostly a triple threat player in his first couple of years in college, seeing time at tailback, quarterback and wide receiver. The most action he got was out of returning kicks, where he averaged 20.8 yards a return on kickoffs and 5.5 on punts. Jason Carter played a bigger role in his sophomore year, playing in 11 games at tailback, receiver and punt and kick returner. He got noticed by returning a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown against Nebraska. He upped his return numbers to 28.4 yards per return on kickoffs and 7.1 yards on punts. Carter also rushed seven times for 128 yards and caught 12 balls for 162 yards. The 2004 season saw Jason Carter breaking out as a wide receiver when he finished second on the team with 36 catches and 468 yards. His 866 all-purpose yards put him as third on the team. He continued to flourish on kickoff returns, leading the team with 330 yards on 18 returns. He posted a career-high 99 receiving yards on 5 catches at Iowa State. Jason Carter’s senior season at Texas A&M put him on NFL scout’s radars when he was named Big 12 honorable mention by league coaches. He led the Aggies with 54 catches for 832 yards as he played in all 11 games. His seven touchdown catches also was team tops. He posted a new career-high in receiving yards when he amassed 219 in one game versus Texas State. Carter totaled 1,270 all-purpose yards on the year, leading the team. Jason Carter finished his college career with 102 catches for 1,457 yards and 6 touchdowns. He posted 2,892 all-purpose yards. Carter played in his first NFL game against the St. Louis Rams on December 31, 2006. He was signed to the Vikings 53-man roster on November 14 after Jason Glenn went on injured reserve. He spent 8 weeks on the Vikings practice squad before joining the official roster.
