More Info
If there is one Minnesota Vikings player to get excited about, it's definitely Jared Allen.
After playing college football at Idaho State, Jared Allen was originally selected in 2004 by the Kansas City Chief and signed a 3-year contract. Jared Allen was essential in rebuilding the Kansas City Chief's poor defensive line. He is remembered for catching a toudown pass against rivals San Diego and Detroit Lions. He led the NFL in sacks in 2007-2008--an impressive 15.5.
The Kansas City Chiefs played an $8.8 million dollar price tag on Jared Allen following the 2008 season. The Minnesota Vikings instead got a chance to sign him...and they did. He is now committed to the Minnesota Vikings football team for the next 6 seasons. His $15.5 million signing bonus doesn't hurt, either!
In 2008, Jared Allen was a crowd pleaser with his steer-tying pantomimes and strong performance. He finished the season with a trip to the Pro Bowl (for the second year in a row) and was tied for 5th in the NFL with total sacks (14.5). This was the most season-recorded sacks by a Minnesota Viking since way back in 1997. Jared Allen leads all players in quarterback sacks since he started in the NFL with 57.5 sacks.
In 2009, Jared Allen was even more of a beast. Jared Allen had his own Minnesota Vikings pre-game show, but on the field was where he really wowed the crowds. Jared Allen received 1st-Team All-Pro honors and was slated to be a Pro Bowl starter though, like his 9 other Minnesota Vikings teammates who were selected for the Pro Bowl, Jared Allen didn't play because the Pro Bowl landed before the big match-up between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. Jared Allen finished second in the NFL with 14.5 sacks.
