Erasmus James was born on November 4, 1982 on the island of St. Kitt’s in the Caribbean. He played college football at Wisconsin before being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Became the third straight first round defensive lineman the Vikings have selected.
NFL
2006: Erasmus James started two games at right defensive end (Carolina, Washington). Had four quarterback hurries in the 2006 season opener. 2005: Was a starter in the final nine games of his rookie season. Had four sacks on the season, ranking him fifth among NFL rookies. Sacked Ben Roethlisberger twice in the same game.
College
Erasmus James was a consensus All-America as a senior at Wisconsin. Was Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Finished college career with 18 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles. 2004: Was a first-team All-Big Ten honoree. Was second in Big Ten with 8.0 sacks. 2003: Redshirted after a hip injury during preseason camp in August. 2002: Started 13 of 14 games. Finished with a career-best 57 tackles. Tops on team with 17 quarterback hurries. 2001: Was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in his first collegiate game when he had three sacks and a forced fumble against Virginia.
Personal
Erasmus James did not play high school football until his senior season when his basketball coached advised him to try it. Was named third-team All-State following his only season of football.
