Dovonte Edwards was born on October 17, 1982 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He attended North Carolina State and was a four year letter winner at the school. Edwards is entering his second season in the NFL and will give the Vikings depth after battling his way up from the depths of the Vikings secondary pecking order. 2006: Dovonte Edwards suffered an arm injury in a preseason game at Dallas and did not play. 2005: Started off on special teams but eventually made his way onto the defensive unit. Edwards’ first career interception for a touchdown came off of a Brett Favre throw. Edwards took it back for 51 yards on the Monday Night Football national stage. Dovonte Edwards was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent before the 2005 season.

College

2004: Dovonte Edwards started all 11 games at cornerback as a senior. His season stats included 40 tackles with 33 solos, seven passes deflected and one forced fumble. Also led the team with three interceptions. 2003: Edwards switched from wide receiver to cornerback during the spring of his junior season. He led the team with 10 pass deflections and started in four games including the Tangerine Bowl. Finished the season with 26 tackles. 2002: Edwards backed up at wide receiver for 13 games and he started 4 games. He caught 26 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown. He decided to quit basketball following the 2002 season to focus on football. 2001: Dovonte Edwards played in 11 games and notched 11 catches for 164 yards and one touchdown.

Dovonte Edward attended Chapel Hill High School in North Carolina and had 14 receiving, two punt returns and one kickoff return for touchdowns. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year in North Carolina during high school and was also a three-time all-conference selection in basketball.
