Chad Greenway was born on January 12, 1983 in Mount Vernon, South Dakota. He played his college ball at Iowa University and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 17th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.

NFL

2007: Chad Greenway came back from a 2006 season-ending knee injury and immediately started all 16 games in 2007. Chad Greenway ranked 2nd on the team with 130 tackles. He also had 4 fumble recoveries, which tied for the NFL lead.

2006: Greenway was only the sixth linebacker taken in the first round of the draft by the Vikings. He is the first linebacker from Iowa to be selected in the first round of the draft. Greenway was the third linebacker taken in the draft behind only A.J. Hawk with the fifth pick and Ernie Sims with the ninth pick. Greenway did not play in the 2006 season because of injury.

College

Chad Greenway was a two time All-Big 10 selection who finished fifth in Iowa annals with 416 career tackles. Out of the 45 games Greenway played, he started in 38 of them. His senior season was his greatest, as he recorded 156 tackles for the third most in a season in Iowa school history.

2005: Averaged 13.0 tackles per game, putting him at fourth in nation. Greenway played in 10 games where he made double-digit amounts of tackles. Was Big-Ten Player of the Week when he went off for a career-high 20 tackles versus Northern Iowa. Perhaps played his best game of his career against Illinois when he homed in on 20 Illinois ball-carriers to go along with 2 sacks and a pass deflected. Helped hold the nation’s top rushing defense in Minnesota to 129 net rushing yards. Played in the Outback Bowl against Florida and tackled nine ball-carriers while deflecting two passes. Greenway was sprinkled with All-American and All-Big Ten awards his senior year, including first-team All-American honors from Pro Football Weekly. 2004: Chad Greenway earned first-team All-American honors from Pro Football Weekly and first-team All-Big Ten honors. Started in all 12 games and posted 113 tackles and nine interceptions on the year. Made two interceptions against Kent State in Iowa’s season opener to go with ten tackles, two tackles for a loss and a blocked field goal. Scored the first touchdown of his career on one of the interceptions in the Kent State game after a 30-yard return. Had nine tackles in Iowa’s win over LSU in the Capital One Bowl. 2003: Chad Greenway had 13 tackles in Iowa’s season opener against Miami (OH) en route to a 132 tackle season, which garnered Greenway second-team All-Big Ten honors. Blocked a punt against Penn State that led to an Iowa touchdown. Played in the Outback Bowl and made four tackles against Florida. 2002: Played in eight games and made 15 tackles with a pass deflection. Started his first career game vs. Purdue and made eight tackles in easily Greenway’s best game of the season. 2001: Redshirted

Chad Greenway attended Mount Vernon High School in South Dakota and helped his squad to back-to-back state titles at the more athletic positions of quarterback and free safety. Had career offensive numbers of 364 carries for 3118 yards and completed 171-of-290 passes for 2572 yards. On defense, Greenway made 407 tackles and 23 interceptions. Greenway also played basketball, baseball and ran track in high school.
