Cedric Griffin
Cedric Griffin was born on November 11, 1982 in Natchez, Mississippi. He played his college football at Texas and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 48th overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft. NFL Cedric Griffin is the highest drafted cornerback by the Minnesota Vikings since Dewayne Washington was taken with the 19th overall pick in 1994. In 2007, Cedric Griffin led the Minnesota Vikings with 81 tackles and was one of just 2 defensive backs to start all 16 games in 2007. 2006: Cedric Griffin started more games with six than any other Vikings rookie. Had a career-best performance at the Detroit Lions when he forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, had an interception and knocked down three passes. The performance garnered him NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Helped break the Vikings four-game losing streak against Arizona on November 26 when he tallied six tackles and deflected a pass. Saw his first NFL action on defense and special teams at Washington in the 2006 season opener. College Cedric Griffin was a starter in 38 consecutive games for the Texas Longhorns over his final three seasons. Over his career at Texas, Griffin amassed 275 tackles, three interceptions, 32 passes deflected, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In his four year career, he helped the Longhorns pass defense finish in the top 10 in the nation three times. Griffin played in the Rose Bowl twice and the Holiday Bowl. 2005: Griffin was a key part of Texas’ title run with 86 tackles, 15 passes deflected and two forced fumbles on his way to first-team All-Big 12 honors by league coaches and The Associated Press. His pass defense unit managed to rank eight in the nation with only 172 yards given up a game. Made a season high 14 tackles against Oklahoma and played a knockout game in the National Championship, making eight huge tackles, six of them solo. 2004: Was a starter in all 12 games at right cornerback. Griffin earned an honorable mention for All-Big 12 by league coaches. Numbers on the year included 68 tackles, three tackles for a loss, two interceptions and six passes deflected. Played a great game against No. 2 ranked Oklahoma, making eight tackles, one tackle for a loss and one pass deflected. 2003: Cedric Griffin was a solid sophomore, starting all 13 games at cornerback while making 48 tackles and seven passes deflected on the season. His pass defense unit was ranked ninth in the nation by only allowing 177.3 yards per game. His first career interception came against Kansas State. 2002: Played in all 13 games and finished fourth on the team with 73 tackles despite only starting six as a redshirt freshman. Other stats on the year included three tackles for a loss, one sack, four passes deflected, two forced fumbles and four quarterback hurries. Was a greenhorn on a Longhorn defense that was eighth in the nation in pass defense, only allowing 165.2 yards a game. Griffin had Oklahoma’s number even as a freshman, as he posted a career-high 15 tackles against them. 2001: Redshirted. Cedric Griffin played both wide receiver and defensive back at Holmes High School. At cornerback he compiled 26 tackles and seven interceptions his senior year while catching eight balls for 202 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.
