As the son of military parents, Bernard Berrian spent his early life traveling the world. Bernard Berrian was born on December 27, 1980 in Barcelona, Spain. After the family settled back in the US, Bernard Berrian attended school in California and played football for Atwater High School, in Atwater, California.
Bernard Berrian played college football for Fresno State and was drafted in 2004 by the Chicago Bears. Bernard Berrian was the 78th NFL draft pick (3rd round).
Bernard Berrian served primarily as a back-up wide receiver with the Chicago Bears. In 2005, an injury overshadowed his season and he had to sit out many games.
Bernard Berrian looked to the 2006 season to stay healthy and injury free. He became
a more reliable receiver and saw more play time. Bernard Berrian closed out the season as the Chicago Bears' 2nd leading wide receiver and earned playing time during the 2006 playoffs. Berrian's playoff performance was impressive. He had five receptions in the NFC championship game against the New Orleans Saints, which the Chicago Bears eventually won.
The Minnesota Vikings signed Bernard Berrian to a 6-year, $42 million contract in March 2008. He sure lived up to these high expectations immediately that season! By the end of the 2008 year, Bernard Berrian averaged 20.1 yards per catch--top in the NFL. He also made a 99-yard touchdown catch, tying an NFL record. He set some Minnesota Vikings team records, too. For instance, Bernard Berrian made three touchdowns of 80+ yards.
In 2009, Bernard Berrian was again a team leader. He pulled in 55 passes which was the 2nd highest total of his NFL career (the first highest being in 2007 when he caught 71). Bernard Berrian ended as third on the Minnesota Vikings in receiving yards with an impressive 618.
