Benny Sapp was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 21, 1981. Benny Sapp gained recognition during his high school years at Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale. Sapp lettered in football, wrestling, volleyball, and track. It was football that Benny Sapp particularly excelled in. During his senior year in 1998-1999, Sapp was an All-Broward County selection and an All-State Honorable Mention.
Benny Sapp's college football career began in the fall of 1999. He decided to become a member of the Northern Iowa Panthers football team and he had 15 starts and 24 appearances.
Next, Sapp transferred to the Iowa Hawkeyes football team beginning with his junior year. Sapp recorded 104 tackles and three interceptions over his two seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
After graduating, Benny Sapp was an undrafted free agent in 2004. He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. After seeing little play time over the course of the 2004-2007 seasons, Benny Sapp was traded to the Minnesota Vikings.
