Artis Hicks was born on November 28, 1978 in Jackson, Tennessee. He played college football at Memphis for four years before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2002 season. Hicks was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings in a draft-day trade with Philadelphia in exchange of 2006 picks.

2007: After the 2007 season, Artis Hicks had played 28 games including 18 starts as a Minnesota Viking football player. His 2007 season is best known for making it possible for Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor to set impressive records. As a guard, Artis Hicks helped rookie Adrian Peterson rush for 100+ yards. Artis Hicks is a huge guy with plenty of strength to support his team.

Artis Hicks was made a starter with the Eagles by his third season in 2004. Helped the Eagles reach Super Bowl XXXIX and started that game. 2006: Started and played in 14 games.
