Antoine Winfield
Antoine Winfield was born on June 24, 1977 and his hometown is Akron, Ohio. Played four years of college football at Ohio State before being drafted with the 23rd overall pick of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Was signed by the Minnesota Vikings on March 8, 2004. NFL 2007: Although Antoine Winfield was frequently injured throughout the season (he missed 6 games), he still managed to record 67 tackles during his playing time in 10 games. Antoine Winfield will hopefully stay injury free in 2008 to help the Minnesota Vikings even more. 2006: Antoine Winfield was the Vikings leader in passes deflected, batting down 20 balls and tied for the team lead with four interceptions. A large part of the Vikings ranking third in the NFL in takeaways with 36. Also a key part of the Vikings eighth ranked defense. 2005: Finished with four interceptions and led all defensive backs with six tackles for a loss. Batted down 12 balls and recovered two fumbles on special teams. 2004: Finished fourth on the team with 99 tackles despite missing parts of four games. Led the team with five tackles for a loss and 18 special teams tackles. 2003: Started all 16 games of the season with the Bills. Ranked third on the team in total tackles with 124. 2002: Started 13 games and had 11 tackles against his future team in an overtime win at the Metrodome. 2001: Led the team in tackles with 106, becoming the first cornerback in Bills’ history to finish first on the team in that category. Had 13 passes deflected while starting all 16 games for the first time in his career. 2000: Started his first 11 games before a shoulder injury placed him on the injured reserve. Had 62 tackles and an interception on the season. 1999: Intercepted Peyton Manning for his first career interception. College Antoine Winfield was the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award for best defensive back after his senior season. Became the first Ohio State player ever to win the award. Was All-American following his junior and senior seasons. Finished college career with 278 tackles and was the first non-linebacker in school history to top 200 career tackles. Personal Antoine Winfield attended Garfield High in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. Played safety but also rushed for 1,069 yards on 150 carries his senior year.
