Anthony Herrera attended college at the University of Tennessee where he played a variety of positions on the offensive line. He started 36 of 48 games for the Volunteers where he helped lead the team to four straight Bowl game appearances. Of his 36 starts, 22 came at left guard, 13 at right guard and one at left tackle. Herrera was a true asset to the Tennessee Volunteers and during his senior year he registered 70 knockdowns/key blocks as he cleared the way for an offense that averaged 371.8 yards per game.
Anthony Herrera then signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2004. He spent his first few weeks on the Vikings practice squad, but was moved up to the roster after he proved to be a worthwhile blocker. In 2005, Herrera fought his way into the starting lineup for the final 6 games of season and was part of an offensive line that gave up only 1.5 sacks per game. In 2006, Herrera started a few games including playing on special teams when the Vikings beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-26 at the Metrodome in front of 63,483 cheering fans.
In the 2007 season, Anthony Herrera ranked first in the NFL for rushing offense. His
plays contributed to the Minnesota Vikings' 2,634 rushing yards and 5.33 yards per carry records.
Additionally, Anthony Herrera assisted Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor in creating a new Minnesota Vikings record of most combined rushing yards by a duo.
