Adrian Peterson was born on March 21, 1985 in Palestine, Texas. Peterson attended the University of Oklahoma and played three year of college football. Peterson became a Consensus All-American in his freshman year in 2004 at Oklahoma. That year, he became the first true freshman to earn those honors as well as the first true freshman to be named first-team by the Associated Press since Dre’ Bly of North Carolina in 1996. He led the nation with 339 rushing attempts and ranked third nationally with 1,925 yards rushing. The running back also reached the end zone 15 times during his freshman year.

Adrian Peterson’s sophomore year in 2005 was marred with injuries, but he still managed to gain 1,108 yards with 14 touchdowns. Peterson only missed one game and two quarters in each of three different games.

Peterson’s junior year saw him missing the final seven games of the season but was still selected as first-team in the Big Twelve Conference. Peterson managed to average 144.57 yards per game in the games he did play. Despite the injuries, Peterson still led his team in rushing for the third-straight year with over 1,000 yards for the third year in a row. He only fumbled the ball three times and committed two turnovers in the games he played.

In his Oklahoma Sooner career, Adrian Peterson rushed for 4,045 yards, third best in school history topped by only Billy Sims and Joe Washington. His 41 rushing touchdowns is fourth in school history. Peterson decided to forgo his senior year at Oklahoma to enter the NFL Draft, where he was picked seventh overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
