Located at 199 Kellogg Boulevard West, the Xcel Energy Center has shaped the landscape of downtown St. Paul since its creation in 2000.  Although St. Paul is known as the more traditional of the two twin cities, the Xcel Energy Center is one of its more modern creations to bring music and sports entertainment to the capital city.  The Xcel Energy Center has provided a boom to the downtown St. Paul area as Minnesota Wild hockey games, political rallies, and memorable concerts are performed on its stages nearly every night.

The Xcel Energy Center is the newest major venue in the twin cities region.  The Xcel Energy Center opened in 2000 on the former site of the outdated St. Paul Civic Center.  Just four years after it opened its doors, the Xcel Energy Center was recognized as the "best overall sports venue" in the entire US by ESPN magazine.  In 2007, just seven years after opening, the Xcel Energy Center reached an important landmark.  On July 3, the gates opened for The Police concert and the 10 millionth person entered the the Xcel Energy Center. 

Although the Xcel Energy Center is dependable for hosting the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Swarm, it seems to be the political venue of choice by both Democratic and Republican parties.  On June 3, 2008, Barack Obama delivered a speech in the Xcel a day after becoming the presumptive Democrat presidential nominee.  The Xcel Energy Center will be abuzz with political activity in August and September 2008 as it becomes the hub of the Republican National Convention.  This huge event will draw thousands of politicans, journalists, supporters, and protesters to St. Paul, Minnesota...and the Xcel Energy Center will again be the center of it all.
