For most of the year, the state of Minnesota endures freezing temperatures, dense snowstorms, and a night sky that descends as early as four o'clock in the afternoon.  After shaking winter away, however, Minnesotans are desperate for summer: BBQs, boating, and-most importantly-the Minnesota Twins!  Nothing makes a summer afternoon sweeter than a couple of Twins tickets for prime seats in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome to watch the likes of Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and Jason Kubel hammering homeruns into the stands and sprinting around the bases.  Truly, Minnesota Twins baseball is one of the state's favorite past-times.

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins baseball legacy extends back to October 26, 1960.  The president of the Washington Senators, Calvin Griffith, decided to move his team to Minneapolis/St. Paul to turn a bigger profit.  This decision rubbed Washington fans the wrong way as they watched their beloved Washington Senators re-locate and re-name themselves the Minnesota Twins in honor of Minnesota's twin cities.  Yet Washington's loss was Minnesota's gain.  The team was flush with talent: Jim Lemon, Harmon Killebrew, Camilo Pascual, and Bob Allison.  In just two short years, the Minnesota Twins placed second in their division and cultivated loyal fan followings.

The remainder of the 1960s only saw the Minnesota Twins develop into a powerhouse.  Tony Olivia rose to fame with his speed in the outfield and 32 homeruns in 1964 alone.  In 1965, the Minnesota Twins captured their first pennant.  The first half of the 1970s continued the Minnesota Twins' success.  Yet, the second half of the decade brought injuries, poor trades, and disappointing losses.

The Minnesota Twins started fresh in 1982 by moving into the newly constructed Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.  Other changes soon followed.  On June 22, 1984, local businessman Carl Pohlad purchased the Minnesota Twins from Calvin Griffith.  With fresh ownership, the Minnesota Twins saw their glory days.  In 1987 and 1991, the Minnesota Twins captured the coveted World Series title and launched the names of Kirby Pucket and Kent Hrbek into baseball superstardom.

Today, the Minnesota Twins possess plenty of young, raw talent.  Delmon Young, Carlos Gomez, and Kevin Slowey have had promising 2008 seasons.  The Minnesota Twins hope to work with these players for years to come and develop their talents into an all-star team reminiscent of the 1987 and 1991 rosters.
